Thesis

Mehmed II’s emulation and claim to the Roman Empire increased material trade between Italian City States and the Ottoman Empire. Mehmed displays this exchange through culturally hybrid objects such as literary collections, portraits, and documents barring his various titles. His personal library, Bertoldo di Giovanni’s Portrait medal, and his title as “Kayser-i Rûm” and "Ruler of the World" are key evidence of this tangible trade.
